Bridge Building Design and Construction

In this project students design and construct a wooden model truss bridge to span a distance of 20" using provided materials and tools and equipment in Wood Lab.

Once students meet and discuss basic plans, they must design and test a truss bridge using West Point Bridge Designer - a web based software program. Using the software, students plan a to scale model bridge. Then they must print out their design and create a full scale pattern drawing they will use during the construction phase of their bridge. Student are also required to maintain a daily detailed construction Process Journal during the entire create phase of the project.

In the lab, students, using provided materials, construct a truss bridge based on the specifications they created using West point Bridge Designer. Once the bridges are completed, students test their bridges to the breaking point to test the structural integrity of the bridge.

Dance Holiday Project - Ballet Combo

Grisham Dance students have the fun task of choreographing their own dance. Each dance must include several dance steps with formations. Along with the dance requirement, is a technology requirement: each dance is video tapped using a Flip camera. Once all dances have been tapped, students are then required to edit the raw video using Wndows Movie Maker. They must add text, music, color and any other creative device they choose to make their dance videos come alive. Each video is then presented to the teacher and class. At the end of the project, students view their own dance video and complete an online Self-Reflection based on a rubric. The Self-Reflections along with their videos are saved in their portfolios that will be burned to a CD at the end of the year.

Web 2.0 in the Language Arts Classroom

Each student will have an opportunity to use and evaluate each of the following web applications. Student will complete an entry in Moodle which will include an assessment of the website, an evaluation of what they have learned and a suggestion or example of how the site can be used in another academic environment.

The unit summative will consist of an e-portfolio of the student's best work of the Web 2.0 applications.
