Biomolecules and MineCraft

Eight grade Science students were introduced to MineCraft today. The classes began their next PBL (Project Based Learning) assignment in Biomolecules. They will eventually create a Biomolecule using MineCraft. Today, they learned how to navigate through the game. The rest of the week will include research and preparation for actually building a Biomolecule.

Objective:
Students will compare the structures and functions of different types of biomolecules including carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids.

Project description:
You will be assigned a specific class of biomolecule to construct (carbohydrate, lipid, protein, nucleic acid). You will need to use your knowledge of chemistry to build a model that represents your assigned biomolecule. You will need to inform others of the outside sources of the molecules in our diet and the function of the biomolecule in the human body
Research…..then …. build a model of your biomolecule in minecraft!

Digital Citizenship Week

This week our IB Tech. students (6th grade) created Digital safety posters using Microsoft Word. The posters were then converted to pdf format and were printed using a large plotter. Students then hung their posters around the campus for everyone to see.
